Residential Addition Under $100,000

Residential Addition Under $100,000
National winner
S. D. Lohr Inc.
Waldorf, Md.
This home, the childhood home of the homeowner, had a front and back; however no one came to the front door because it was blocked from view by woods and the driveway went around to the back door. The goal of the project was to create a large space that extended family could gather, that also improved the awkward rear entry of the home.
The front room was changed from a living room to a dining room. The new space uses large windows to take advantage of the view from outdoors. In addition, a variety of lighting options are used. Tray ceilings make the room feel larger.
A screen porch was turned into a four-season sunroom, with full insulation and an HVAC supply system that can be closed so it doesn’t impact the rest of the house.
A small casement window was added in the kitchen, to make up from the natural light being lost from the addition.
