NARI stands behind new Building U.S. Infrastructure by Leveraging Demands for Skills (BUILDS) Act

Washington, DC – August 7, 2017 – The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) strongly supports the introduction of S.1599, the Building U.S. Infrastructure by Leveraging Demands for Skills Act (BUILDS Act).  With the widespread shortage of skilled labor in this country, NARI believes this legislation would provide much needed assistance to the many businesses in our industry impacted by the workforce shortage.

NARI CEO Fred Ulreich said, “The shortage of skilled labor in our country has created a critical situation for many in the remodeling industry and we support federal action to improve the issue.  Without adequate attention and work to restore our workforce, many businesses will be unable to keep up with demand and ultimately obstruct economic growth.”

S.1599 would provide grants to promote industry partnerships to specific in-demand industries that would provide workers with the skills needed to enhance our country’s infrastructure and to boost industry and competitiveness. U.S. Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Tim Kaine (D-VA) introduced the BUILDS Act in July.

“This legislation is a good step to provide the much needed support and encouragement from the federal government as we all work together to address this critical shortage,” said Ulreich.  “We appreciate the leadership of Senators Kaine and Portman.”
