Hurricane Harvey and How to Help
Southeast Texas continues to experience epic and catastrophic impact from Tropical Storm Harvey. NARI members and local chapters in Houston, San Antonio, Austin and Dallas need our support as the storm impacts the lives of our friends and families.
NARI Headquarters is working with our local chapters to understand how we can support the recovery effort. During our Fall Leadership Summit next week in Boston, NARI Leadership, Chapter Executives and member volunteers will form a task force to discuss how we can support the recovery effort in the weeks and months to come. Information will be provided after the conclusion of the fall meeting.
In the interim, there are a number of ways to help the recovery effort. Below is a list of organizations that provide both financial and volunteer support.
Red Cross and Salvation Army
Donations can be made via websites for the Red Cross and Salvation Army. Both organizations have mobilized disaster recovery teams to support recovery efforts now and in the future.
Now that a federal disaster has been declared, Feeding Texas will lead the effort to coordinate efforts between state, local and other allied food bank operations to deliver resources quickly to storm victims. Make a Donation.
Texas Diaper Bank
The Texas Diaper Bank provides more than formula, diapers for babies and young children. They also support seniors and the disabled. Consider these much overlooked areas of need.
The National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster is another option for learning how to support the recovery effort. This organization accepts volunteers as well as corporate and individual donations. Learn how you can help.
The United Way accepts donations via their website as well as by sending a text message. Text UWFLOOD to 41444. Donations will go to the United Way Flood Relief Fund.
A number of programs working to save pets in the region:
Humane Society Pet Rescue is leading the evacuation effort, Wings of Rescue provides air transportation for pets, and the SPCA provides disaster support as well.
