NARI Supports Legislative Change for Energy Efficiency

The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) commends Senators Rob Portman and Jeanne Shaheen on the reintroduction of the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act of 2017.

This legislation will encourage the development of energy efficient technologies as well as promote their use across all economic sectors.  It will also strengthen national model building codes to make new homes and commercial buildings more energy efficient.  In addition, it will encourage more cooperation between all parties, including states and private industry, to ensure more transparency in the code-writing process.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, this legislation will decrease direct federal spending by approximately $12 million over a 10 year period.  The Alliance to Save Energy estimates that the legislation could create 192,000 jobs and avoid millions of metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.  NARI strongly supports incentives for using energy efficient technologies in existing homes and buildings.

“NARI commends Senators Portman and Shaheen for their continuing work on energy efficiency issues,” said NARI CEO Fred Ulreich.  “Remodelers believe that policies which encourage better energy efficient technologies are not only good for the environment but make good business sense.  NARI supports this legislation and urges its passage by the U.S. Congress,” Ulreich said.

Last year both Senator Portman and Senator Shaheen received NARI’s Legislator of the Year Award for their work on energy efficiency legislation.
