Redesigning Your Website in 2016

by Lorraine Hart

Your website is the most important strategic marketing tool your business has. Since a website redesign necessitates an investment of your budget and time, proper planning is important.

When planning a website redesign, evaluate your current website and ask yourself the following:

  • Is your website aligned with your current business strategy?
  • Does your website reflect your brand adequately?
  • Is your website easy to navigate?
  • Is your content accurate, current, useful and reflect your current targeted audience?
  • Is it mobile friendly?
  • Is your website being found?

Now that you have defined the attributes that you don’t have or need to change, you can go forward and work on the design aspect. A good place to start would be to look at the websites of your competitors. Write down what you like or dislike about their websites and what you think you can do better or differently. Look around to get an idea of colors, styles, fonts, navigation menus and take note of what appeals to you. Keep in mind that the main purpose of your website is to establish your brand identity. Different designs convey different messages therefore you want to make sure you convey the right message for your desired target audience.

Content plays a big role in keeping your website visitors engaged and coming back. Your site’s content should be high quality, original, valuable and relevant to your target audience. Your site should also have beautiful high quality photos.

You now have a good start towards planning a new website. The next step would be to choose a website professional with proven design and optimization experience who understands marketing for your specific business. Many web designers offer cookie cutter websites at initial bargain basement prices. Since your website is the online face of your business, it is worthwhile to find a web developer with experience and skill who can customize your site to reach your target audience and achieve your business’ specific goals.
