The homeowner was tired of her existing kitchen, which had builder grade cabinets and was closed off from the rest of the home. To open up the space, the partitions between the kitchen and breakfast area, and the load bearing wall were removed. The soil stack for the upstairs bathrooms and the duct chase were relocated to shared side walls and a beam to carry the second floor load was installed as well. The new space was extended about ten feet into the dining room and includes a working island in a dark finish and white surround cabinets. Stainless steel appliances, Brazilian walnut floors and decorative lighting finish the space.
