The homeowners and their architect switched the kitchen and family room spaces within the existing footprint and improved the home in unexpected ways. Now the kitchen is a destination instead of a walkthrough. A column of windows replaced the former chimney and provides an uplifting feeling around the kitchen sink. The exposed beams unite the chestnut island countertop and wood floor and juxtaposes the white cabinets and counters. A dishwasher was placed at the end of the island for quick cleanup. The clients are thrilled with the new layout.
